School Feeding begins

In a classroom at Guanwarre School

The sweet taste of success!  On Monday, February 1, 2010, six mothers from the farming community of Guanwarre balanced 2 large kettles over wood fires, measured the rice, tomato paste, palm oil, and dried herrings, then added some iodized salt and hot peppers as they prepared the first of many midday meals for their new primary school.  One hundred twenty students had each brought a stick of firewood and their own bowls  in anticipation of a nutritious and filling school lunch of Jollof Rice.  This was the successful culmination of our biggest project to date in Ghana.  Guanwarre students will receive lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for 25-30 weeks, depending on how many students attend school.
